Growing up

Last night I was putting Nicole to bed and she was trying every trick in the book not to get settled down. I barley left the room and she is yelling for me, I go in and see what she needs and there she is standing by her bed. She told me to sit down, as she went over and turned on the light and told me in her most serious voice that she was tired of me saying no and having to be put on the naughty mat. She said if I just told her what I needed that she would do it. Now as she is telling me this she is pacing back and fourth and her arms are moving like she is conducting an orchestra. By this time she had gotten daddy's attention so he came in and joined me and then I got the whole speech again. I waited until she was done because she obviously needed to get this off her chest and then I told her we would try it but if that didn't work we would have to go back to the way things are. I have never had to bite my lip so hard from laughing. I guess we will see if it works and what she comes up with next.

Flu

Can I take a break yet? So, last Saturday we went to a wedding, Sunday Hazen comes down with the flu, Friday Nicole comes down with it and then Monday I come down with it.

Really, can I please just have a month off? Since college the Bible verse about God never gives you more than you can handle has stuck with me (I can't remember which verse it is off the top of my head). I do believe this is true but there are sometimes when I ask Him why things are happening...

When I came down with this flu on Monday my dear husband had to instantly turn into Mr. Mom. He actually surprised me... He had to change Ryan's diapers (which is a first for him), make meals, give a bath, do a load of laundry, and entertain Nicole and Ryan. I was terribly ill and never even attempted to leave my room so when I came out late the night to check on Nicole I was in shock to see the bomb that went off. Anything that could be out was!! Oh, well we all survived and so far (knock on wood) Ryan hasn't shown any signs of it.

My mom and I were talking and we decided my life needs to be turned into a sitcom.

Hot or Cute???

So yeah I need to take a moment and clarify something.....I got my haircut last week. I went in and told the gal who cuts my hair I was sick of it and just do something cute and that would fit my face well. She ends up giving me a short bob, which I thought looked adorable and lets face it "mommy friendly". I came home and what did I get?? A look of disbelief from my husband!!! He hates short hair, he loves the long, curly, flowing locks of hair look (which I use to have when we were dating).
That night we were going out to our harvest supper and I was figuring out what I was going to wear and getting his opinion on the outfits. I was asking him which one was cute and then he came up with this profound statement to tell me "Your haircut makes you cute not hot". What?????? I know he didn't mean it to be mean but, I like to think of myself as cute and hot I said and it has been left there ever since. So I will leave it to you to decide if it is cute or hot....

Clean House

So as I sit here writing this I know I should be running around doing all the chores that need to be done but yeah, you can see what I am choosing. Why is it that when you have kids your house seems to go to pot? I kept up with the house when it was just Hazen and I and even when Nicole came along. I had a special place for every toy, knickknack, and all of my laundry was done.

I am finding after Nicole got H1N1 I haven't been able to keep up with anything. We have just been through a whirl wind of events. Oh, well we have clothes on our backs, food in our stomachs and a roof over our heads. That is all that matters right? Seriously my Great Uncle and Grandpa came over today unexpected and I was totally mortified for them to see the condition of my house. Toys from one end to the other (which just happened this morning), dishes from just finishing dinner still out and not to mention the little shards of paper strung everywhere from Miss Nicole and her scissors. When they came in I told them to excuse the mess and my uncle told me not to worry about because they had kids at one point too :)

I guess that is true...........if you have ever had kids or are planning on it you will soon find out an idea of keeping your house perfect is a total illusion. All that really matters is that you are happy, healthy and have each other. That's what makes a family a family. At least my kids won't remember me as some paranoid neat freak that freaks out every time there is a toy out. I wish I just had more room in this house!!! A room I could put all the toys into and at least shut it when I couldn't bear to see them anymore (Although you know they still wouldn't all stay in there).

I know this time will pass and my two monkeys will be grown up and I will wonder where the time has gone. So for now I will grin and bear all the "stuff" in my house and if you come to visit me be ready for anything and please don't say anything unilt after you leave ;)

Naps

I LOVE NAP TIME!!!! It seems like naps are getting less frequent around here. Nicole is at that weird age where she thinks she doesn't need one but by the end of the day you can sure tell she missed it. I thought I would share a few pics from over the holidays. Don't mind Hazen's attire, he couldn't bear to have anything tight around his stomach with everything that went on.

Spit up

Why is it that some men can handle changing diapers, cleaning up spit up/throw up, or rescuing a stranded child on the toilet and not even blink an eye? I was not blessed with a husband that can handle any of this. The other day Ryan was on Hazen's chest with even a burp rag between them. Ryan spit up a little tiny bit and then there was a pause and a scream for help. I came over cleaned everything up and thought things would be okay, ummmm no. Hazen wanted me to take Ryan immediately so I stared to pick him up and the burp rag brushed Hazen's thumb.....Big mistake it was instant dry heaving followed by a sprint to the bathroom. It was so hilarious!!! I could barely breath I was laughing so hard. I love that man to death but I have learned if you ever need help with some sort of liquid coming from a child, don't call on him otherwise you might have two messes to clean up.
